CHRISTCHURCH V. WELLINGTON WIN FOR THE FORMER By Telegraph—Preaa Association. Christchurch, September 24. There was a big crowd at English Park this afternoon to witness the first ladies’ interprovincial "Soccer" football match played in Canterbury. The teams (Wellington and Canterbury), were loudly cheqred as they come from the dressing shed. The Canterbury girls had adopted the honoured red and black colours. Their dress consisted of a black jcisey with a wide red band round tho cenjj-e, loose black shorts and long stockings. Their caps showed, the feminine touch, being made in black with red band and flowing red teasel. The Wellington girls, although they have been playing longer than their Christchurch slaters, had not reached the stage of wearing shorts. Their dress consisted of a neat-looking gymnasium costume of navy bln® with a light blue Stripe, and an attractive-look-ing cap in light and dark blue colours. All tho players wore businesslike boots, and from the outset it was evident that tho girls were certainly out to win. The only score of the game was registered by Canterbury. A Wellington girl had made the mistake of using her hands to pick up the ball in the penalty srea, and the referee awarded « free kick to Canterbury. Miss Poyner kicked a gcal. “That’s tho way!” roared the crowd, but Wellington were nippy and having learn, cd the lesson were not going to be caught napping again. At the end of the first spell the girls were uhowinif signs of tiredness.' and tho brief respite was very welcome Wellington made strenuous efforts to even up, but the teams were too evenly matched, and the game ended without any alteration to tho score. As the teams walked orf tho field, the crowd surged round the -girls and congratulated them freely on 'the excellent game they had played. In the course of tha .match there were humorous incidents in plenty which kept, the crowd constantly amused.
