PRISONER RECAPTURED
• DRAMATIC CIRCUMSTANCES. By Telegraph— Press Association. Ashburton, September 23. " Tim prisoner, Hcrlxrt Chapman, who jumped from an express train near Ashburton on ' Tuesday of last week, was recaptured nt Dromoite, six miles from the point where, he decamped, Into last night under dramatic circumstances. Acting on information received, four of the police force proceeded at 11.35 to a. house occupied by Cyril Guthrie, at Dromore. They surrounded the house, and Constable Dunn was admitted after a delay of ton minutes He asked Guthrie: "Where is ho?" Guthrie led the way to the front of tho house, stood aside, and snid: "Tn here.” Dunn heard a shot, and, bursting in, found Chapman in bod with a. pea-rille urdcr tho bedclothes. He also found soft-nosed bullets, one of which li’iid-en-tored Chapjjjan’s chest two inches above fho heart. Medical aid and an ninbuianco worn dispatched and Chapman was removed to the hospital. His condition this morning is reported as not serious.
