THE HOME OF COMPASSION
CAMPAIGN FOR FUNDS. An excellent beginning o’ the effort .to raise funds for the Rev. Mother Aubert s Home of Compassion was made on Wed Say night, when Mr and hfro; J. J. M'Grth uver 156 people assembled at their resideuce at Oriental Bay. A most delightful evening being spent. Dancing, games music, nnd competitions provided excellent entertainment, and a:salo of sweets and flowers added materially to the financial results of the. evening. ' After supper everyone assembled in a large marquee erected on the lawn, where the competitions were decided and a variety entertainment given. Contributors. to the programme were, .the Misses O Brien (-L Messrs. M. Carr, Thorsby, .Lawlor, Behan. Gatnbirazzi, C. J. Griffin, and F. M'Parland. "Mr. M'Parland also played appropriate music for a number of old Irish dances. ~Tn thanking everyone present on behalf of his wife and himself for coming to their home. Mr. M'Grath said he regarded their .attendance and their generosity as a tribute to the true Christian work of Mother Aubert,- so long and so unobtrusively carried’on by her for the afflicted poor of the communitv, and he urged them during the period of the appeal to continue their good work, so hanpilv begun, that night. He wished wnecinlly to thank Mr. M'Parland for the valuable tronhy and for the large sum of money realised by him and Mrs. Manton in disposing of it. As a. result of the evening the home will benefit to the extent of £2OO.
