AT THE MARKETS
GLUT OF SPRING VEGETABLES. Owing to the- mild weather, and probably also tho big rainfall of last weekend, spring vegetables (mostly cabbages, cauliflowers, and lettuces) have been streaming into the city markets, until there is now quite a glut, which, however favourable to tho public, is not pleasant to the growers. Fine spring cabbages could be purchased in the marketa yesterday for Is. a sack or case, lettuces (not prime quality) went a-begging at Is. a case, and cauliflowers were selling spasmodically at from 2s. to 6s. fid. pt-r sack. The new season’s rhubarb was purchased readily at fair prices, and small leeks wore run out at Id. per bundle. San Francisco apples have been realising 455. per central case, and American lemons are in demand at firm rates.
