GLOAMING’S SICKNESS UNFIT TO RACE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. (Rec. September 23, 9.46 p.m.) Sydney, September 23, Gloaming will not start nt the Randwick meeting. Mason states that his recent cold has left him a bit of a wreck, and it will be several months before he is again fit to rq.ee. —Press Assn. TWO-YEAR-OLD TRIALS Sydney, September 23. At' the annual two-year-old. trials at Randwick, Veil finished second in one five-furlong heat, which was won by Daily Bread in Imin. 2sec—Press Assn. RANDWICK SCRATCHINGS Sydney, September 23. Silent Way and Tararu Jack have been scratched for all Randwick engagements. —Press Assn. AND COMMENTS By Glencoe. There will be racing at Ashburton, Wahgafnui, and Avondalo to-day. Private advices received from land yesterday stated that a lot of rain' had fallen, and tho going would be on tho heavy side for the opening of tho Avondalo meeting. Big fields will bo seen under silk’ in all the events at Avondale to-day, and the draw for positions at /the barrier will have an important bearing on the way the various runners are supported on the totalisntor. This will be the case particularly in the Avondale Stakes, four furlongs, the Flying Handicap, six fur--longs, and the Henderson Handicap, seven furlongs. Amongst tho starters in the Mdiden Plate at Avondale to-day is Radiant Light, a. three-year-old full-sister to Delight.’ The filly will carry the colours of her Breeder, Mr. W. G. Stead, and 1 will be ridden by R. Reed. She is reported to be a 'smart hack, and should bo all tho better for the race she had at the Pakuranga Hunt Club meeting last week. The same stable will start Truthful in the Henderson Apprentice Handicap, and if the Demosthenes mare is to justify her. position in the New Zealand Cup market she will have to show up in this event. Despite his big burden of lOst. 21b., Sasanof will not lack supporters in the Avondalo Cup, one mile and a half, for there is no doubt that tho aged Martian gelding is the best stayer in the race. If the going gets very heavy Miss Muriel may have to bo reckoned with. Mr. Acton Adams s mare is well seasoned with racing, and she showed at Trentham in July that she was quite at homo in heavy going. There has boon a considerable fallingoff In the fields at Wanganui to-day, but the two hack events have filled well. A fresh horse in tho Hack Welter Handicap ’is Danger Zone, who should be a' better horse for his race at Hawera last month. RudJy may be the public choice In the Hack Hurdles, while First Line and Tigerlaiid may divide favouritism in the Marangai Steeplechase. Tho latter jumped badly on the opening day, and should bo all tho better for the public schooling. The Reaver, who will have tho benefit of an ’ apprentice allowance, may command support in tho Mouton Hack Handicap, and The Hawk fill have plenty of supporters in the Owen Handicap, six furlongs.
