ALLEGED THEFT OF A CAKE. Reuben Reeves, who was arrested on Tuesday evening, nppean-d in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning before Mr. F; K. Hunt, S.M., charged with stealing at Morrinsville on -Saturday lust one cake value 145., ' and a packet of candles vahw Is. 2d., the property of Williami Thomas. On the application of Chief Defective Ward he was remanded to appear at Hamilton on Saturday. Alfred S.' Driver was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment for stealing from a Chinaman’s shop. Driver went into the, shop, and while the'Chinaman was serving anotlfer customer lie picked up TOine candles, Chinese jellies, anti tea, and walked away. Besides the imprisonment he was ordered to pay the value of the goods, 12s. 7<l„ and the expenses of a witness. . Archibald J. Kwk was fined 20»., in default three days’ imprisonment, for drunkenness; he was convicted and discharged fcr resisting arrest; for damaging a constable’s uniform, he ordered to pay 10s., and for damaging a receptacle in the cells he was ordered to pav 12s. Gd., and. by consent a, prohibition order was issued against him Peter M'Carron was fined 10=., wiin. the option of 48 hours’ imprisonment and for damaging a receptacle m i o cells he was ordered to pay 1-S. Gd., the amount of the damage.
