THORNDON RECLAMATION. The Wellington Harbour Board held its monthly meeting last night. Mr. J. G Harkness presided, and there were also present: Messrs. C. J. B. Norwood, 11. B. Bonnett, J. Leuchars, .1. W. M'Ewan, ,T. B. M'Ewan, T. Moss, C. M. Turrell, M. Cohen, M. AV. Welch, Captain C. M'Arthur. The state of the bank pass books was fla follows:—Current account, credit balance 4149,805; imprest' account, credit balance, 414573; on fixed deposit, 41130,600. Payments had been made as follow:— Interest accounts, claims and wages, .£35,404; progress payments on contracts, 41977; salaries for August, 411629. In regard to the Thorndon reclamation the chairman reported that an arrangement had. been arrived at by the Railway Department and the board. "Ve have not got all that we asked for/ said Mr Harkness. ''Unfortunately w* are not going to get a further depth of land back from the breastwork, but at all events the cost that wo would bo called upon to bear in connection with laving the elding to the railways is practically to be held in abeyance. There are one or two smaller concessions that we have received, and instructions have been given that the agreement between the board and the Depart ment is to be executed at once. Indeed. I had thought that that agreement, would have been here this evening. Unfortunately, through circumstances over which wo have no control, the agreement has not turned up. As soon as the agreement is signed, we, can proceed with certain land surveys, and so on. neecs-mry for the preparation of the work.” Mr. Cohen ask<?d whether tno possibility of extending the reclamation seaward had been considered. The chairman said that it had been considered. Such an extension, however, would make a break in the wall and oau?o tho loss of a berth. Therefore it was not considered desirable.
