CHRISTCHURCH SUGGESTIONS. By Telegraph.—Press A»Boelixtion. Christchurch, August 24. The housing problem was discussed at special meeting of the Christchurch City Council yesterday, and tho following motion was passed :—“(l) -*-hat the Government be asked to amend the section in the Municipal Corporations Act relating to loans for workers’ houses by altering .tho present rate of 51 per cent to not more than 6j per cent. (2) that nil persons in urgent need of houses be requested to lodge their names with tho council. (3) That the council officers prepare a list of empty houses in tho city, and that citizens be invited to co-operate by notifying the council of tho existence of such houses. (4) That in the opinion of the council the time has arrived when all legislatioin jrestricting the rights of landlords regarding rent and possession be repealed. The question of erecting canvas houses was referred to the executive committee.
