NGAIO V. WELLINGTON B. The above teams met in August, 1918, when lie Wellington Club's B team won by 71 games to 4|. A return match was played at 52 Cuba Street on Saturday evening, when the Ngaio Club won 'by 9 games to 7. The first eight players of tho local club were barred. At the refreshment adjournment each side had notched four wins. On resuming the Ngaio Club forged ahead, and in the next hour gained a useful lead that made victory for them practically a certainty. When play censed only one game was marked incomplete, viz., the fixture Lindsay v. Purchas at board 2. The former was a pawn up on tho king’s side, but as it was extremely doubtful whether ho could save a pawn on the queen’s wing, and. there was a lot of play in the position, tho adjudicators (Messrs. L. A. Hides and F. K. Rolling) awarded a draw A very enjoyable contest thus ended in a two-point victory for the visitors Mr. F. K. Rolling (an ex-presidont) thanked tho Ngaio Club for their visit, which had given much pleasure. lhe Ngaio team hod played three matches this season, and had won them all. Iheu present season was therefore a very successful link between a good past and v. hat ho hoped would prove a stlli bettel future. (Applause.) Mr. I*. J. (nresident) returned thanks for the kindness and hospitality shown to his team, which, ho added, was the strongest that had ever represented the suburban club.
