FIRE ON THE SAXON

SERIOUS SITUATION VESSEL AT SIERRA LEONE By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Cape Town, August 19. A private message from Sierra Leone indicates that the situation caused by (he fire on the liner Saxon is more serious than was at first supposed. When the vessel arrived at Sierra Leone her sides were radiating heat, and the passengers had abandoned their cabins and were sleeping on the decks. The smoke during the last few days of the voyage was dense enough to render the air over the decks like a Lonooii fog. The damage is probably extensive. General Smuts and Sir Thomas Smartt will probably tranship to the Kenilworth Castle.--Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
