Marama ar. rived in the stream at Wellington at 8.45 o’clock yesterday morning from San Irancisco, via Papeete and Rarotonga, and berthed at 11 a.m. at No. 1 Queen’s Wharf. The Marama left San Francisco on July 25, aud^eocountered east-south-east wind and moderate seas until two days off Papeete, when strong and moderate to rough Beas, with thick, misty weather, ruled. The voyage was continued from Papeete on August 6 with moderate southeast trades, which held till Harotonga was reached two days later. Light south-east winds were blowing when the Maraina cleared Rarotonga on te 1 ; last stage of the journey to Wellington. A moderate southerly swell was running for the remainder of the voyage. . The Mararoa is timed to leave here at noon to-day for Sydney. SMALL FIRE ON THE PORT BOWF.N. On (Saturday afternoon a small fire o» curved on the C. and I), liner Port -Bowen. The vessel was in Auckland, and a fumigator upset a bottle of spirits in one of the holds. The damage done from the fire was • very slight, only five cases of kauri gum being burnt, and the flames were subdued by the application or a couple of bags of salt. The Port Bowen cleared Auckland at 7.30 a.m. yesterday, and is due here to-inorrow. She should sail for Lyttelton and Dunedin on Sunday, and on completion of discharge at the latter pert will load.-at Port Chalmers, Bluff, Lyttelton, and Wellington. She is timed to’ sail from here for London about September I«. BARQUE FRANCE IN PORT. The barque France, the largest sailer in the world, arrived in port last night from Lyttelton. She is a vessel of 5633 tons gross. The France left Lyttelton shortly after three o'clock on Monday and arrived at about eleven o’clock last night- The Karaka towed her in, and she dropped anchor in the stream. Captain A. Leport is in command, and he has a crew of 56 with him. TAIROA AT DURBAN. The S.S. and A. liner Tairoa arrived at Durban on Thursday last. She left Wellington on July 1, aud cleared Sydney on J uly 20. WHAKATANE AT LONDON. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Whakatane arrived at London on Monday. She left Lyttelton on June 22. PORT KEMBLA LEAVES PANAMA. The U. and D. liner Port Kembta left Panama on Friday in continuation of her voyage. She sailed from here on July 24. WAITOMO FROM NEWCASTLE. The Union company s steamer Waitomo is expected to leave Newcastle for Wellington and Dunedin to-day. PORT LINCOLN DUE FRIDAY. The C. and D, Hner Port Lincoln is now due on Friday from Auckland. She has Now York cargo for discharge, and m timed to sail for Melbourne on August' 2a. FOR SYDNEY. The Ulimaroa is timed to sail for Sydney at nqon to-morrow. KUROW FROM ADELAIDE. The Kurow is expected to leave Adelaida this week for Dunedin, Timaru, Lyttelton and Wellington. RUAPEHU AND OTAKI. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that the Ruapehu left; Newport New« on Saturday, and tne Otaki left Durban on Tiiuraday. PAPAROA TO COMPLETE. The New Zealand Shipping Company’! liner Paparoa is due from Timaru to-day, ana is to sail for London at 3 p.m. on Friday. ARAWA AT MONTE VIDEO. The S.S. and A. liner Arawa arrived at Monte Video on Sunday. She left note on July 23. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. J. O’Shea, third engineer of the Mararoa, has left that vessel owing to 111Mr. T. B. Walker, purser of the Marama. is to be succeeded by Mr. C. Leighton, lute purser of tho Makura. Mr. B. T. Carringtoa has joined the Hinemoa as first mate. Westport, and Greymouth. The Rewa should get away towards tho end of tho week for Lyttelton. The Komata is due to-morrow from Westport, and should sail again on Frid, The Karamu is now due on Saturday from Timaru. and should sail on Monday for Bluff. Dunedin. Oamaru, and rimarti. The Raupo will probably undergo overhaul after completion'of discharge hero. The Wairuna is to sail for Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Melbourne to-day. The Kennedy will sail to-day direct for Westport, (instead of via Picton). and will load coal there for Foxton.
