DUNEDIN CRIMINAL CASES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, August 16. The criminal sittings of the* Supreme Court have commenced. True lulls were returned against four accused. Tho most serious charge is that of the attempted murder of Alfred James Pottinger preferred against Charles Howard Tipping, the offence allegedly occurring on the oversea steamer Mah.ia in May. Francis Paranthorne pleaded guilty to assaulting Henry Sexton and causing bodily harm. He was reiearea on probation for three years, on condition that he takes out a prohibition, order and pays the costs, Xl4 7s, Id. within a year. NEW PLYMOUTH SITTING. By Telegraph —Press Association. New Plymouth, August 16. Tho Supremo Court sessions opened today, Mr. Justice Salmond presiding. In the charge to the grand jury, His Hoaour said that he regretted to note that all the cases for the present criminal sittings concerned sexual offences. True bills were returned in. all cases. '' nliam Wobberley, who pleaded guilty to incest at Kaponga in May*, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment with, hard labour. His Honour, in addressing accused, pointed - out that the crime was tho most abhorrent of offences. Hilda L. Davey, a young married woman who had pleaded guilty in the Lower Court to the theft of about X4O, was admitted to two years’ probation.
