CADET SHOOTING
SOUTH WELLINGTON COMPANY AVIN ISLINGTON CUI*. The Islington Cup, awarded for musketry, was presented to the 39th Company (South Wellington) Senior Cadets on Monday t-vening, by Colonel Melville, C. 8., C.M.G., D. 5.0., OHicpr Commanding Central District. The ceremony tooK place at the Garrison Hall, and the trophy was received by the company cisnmander, Lieutenant AV. J. R. Christopherson. The winning company also received J!H> in prize money. Colonel Melville congratulated the company on having registered the finest score since the’inauguration of the competi-' tion. The present njmtern ot training, he -said, was not directed so much at making the youth of the Dominion good soldiers as making them good sportsmen and good citizens, Tho following trophies were also presented:— Lady Godk-y Cup, 31st Company, 192081.—Cadet R. C. Chivers (and medal). Lady Godloy Cup, 39th Company, 1920-21.—Cadet J. C. Bolt (and medal). Medals were presented to the winners of the rifle exercisi-s, physical drill, and squad drill at the West Coast and Manawatu Caledonian Society’s sports last Easter,, as under:— Physical Training—39th Company: C.S.M. Hearne, Cadets Kelly, Bentley, Ransome, Lance-Corpl. Rouse, Cadets Handcock, Orr, Athea, Bolt, Sergeants Cooper and Sanderson. ‘ Rifle Exercises—27th Company: bergt. M'Ewan, Cadets Fernandes, Middleton, Murphy, Guy, Jacobson, Montgomery, Hood, Auld, Baker, Breslin. Squad Drill.—3oth Company: C.S.M. Osborne, Cadets Avery, Mullinson, Booth, AVilliams, Chase, Corpls. Bennett, Carwell-Cooke, Morris, and Hutchinson.
