NORTH WESTLAND GOLDFIELD
EXTENSIVE AREA TO BE WORKED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hokitika, August 16. Messrs. Park and Murdoch, solicitors, have received a cable message from Mr. Thomas H. Hamer, formerly Dominion Under-Secretary for Mines, and now in London, intimating that the preliminary work of organising the mining company to work the Hohonu goldfield. North Westland, has now been completed. The working capital has been underwritten, and tenders have been authorised to bo called for a complete water supply. The proposition is for hydraulic sluicing over an extensive elevated field. Seven miles of race have already been cut, but an additional nine miles are necessary to tap the Hohonu River and ensure a permanent supply of water for works on- a large scale. Tire work will immediately he undertaken and the cost will run into five figures. Those fajniliar with the goldfield have given very favourable reports on the prospects of undertaking the operation as is proposed on a large scale.
