An opinion was asked as to what punis i went should be meted out. It was decided to inform the Canterbury Association that the referee’s action was correct and must be- upheld, and that the opinion was held that the match should be considered as having been played and no points won by either side; further, the teams should be censured. An appeal was received from the Thorndon Club, Wellington, against the Wellington Football Associations decision in deciding to replay the ThorndonWellington Gas Company match owing to their considering that the re.eree had made a mistake in law. The facts of the case were that 1 horndon beat Wellington Gas Company on a badly-marked ground by 3 goals to 2Both teams had agreed to play under the conditions, but the Wellington Gas Company afterwards protested owing to I the referee awarding a penalty against ; them on an unmarked ground. xhey also asked whether a referee could throw I down after an alleged case, of handling. The W.F-A. decided that in the latter case the referee should have awarded a penalty, and accordingly ordered the match to be replayed. The Thorndon Club appealed on the grounds that the I referee wa’ the sole judge as to whether a penalty should be awarded or not. It was' decided that the claim by the Gas Company’s team for a penalty to be disallowed was not valid, and in the second point as the referee decided that tlie "bauds” was unintentional the council must uphold his decision. The appeal of the Thorndon Club was, therefore, upheld, and tho match remains a win for Thorndon.
