REPRESENTATIVE FIXTURES DATES ARRANGED The Management Committee of the Wellington Kugby Union met last evening. There were present Messrs. J. Prendevillo (in the chair), W. J. Hardham, H. C. Buck, F. A. Laws, E. 11. Ward. A. J. Griffiths, G. F. Jackson, H. M’Leod, and Millard.
’ The Referees’. Association wrote pointing out that in the match St. Patrick’s College v. Y.M.C.A. (sixth class), both teams were notified that the game was not being played, and the referee was not advised.—lt was decided to inquire into the matter. It was decided to endorse the referee’s action in awarding the Hutt-Selwyn fixture to Selwyn, owing to the Hutt team’s failure to put in an appearance. It was also resolved to ask the Hutt Club for an explanation. Permission was granted the Petone Railway Workshops to send a team to Auckland to play the Newmarket Railway Workshops’ team. The Poneke Club wrote protesting against the action of the referee of the Poneke-Technical College fifth-class match, last Saturday, in stopping the game four minutes before time.—The matter was referred to the Referees’ Association. On the application of the Wellington Public Schools' Football Association, it was resolved to pay £5, covering the medical expenses of a Lower Hutt boy player injured in a schools match. The Wellington Rugby Referees’ Association forwarded the names of sixteen referees available to control the Canter-bury-Wellington match.—lt was stated that the understanding with the association was that only four names should be submitted, and it was accordingly decide ed to inform the association that if it was not prepared to carry out the agreement the union would attend to tho matter itself. * Renresentatlve Matches. PUBLIC SERVICE TOURNEY A meeting of the executive controlling tho 1921 Public Service Rugby tournament was held last evening, Mr. J. B. Gauntlett being in tho chair. There were present: Messrs. H. Paton, J. Mulcahy, L. Tracy, W. E. Barker, and J. K. Jameson, secretary. No definite date for the opening of the tournament was fixed, but it is hoped that the present grade matches will be*finished in time to allow of a stort being made early in September Applications for the combining of two more smaller Departments, thus enabling them Io place one good team in the field were considered, and the following were granted :-State Advances to combine with Land and Income lax, State Fire with (he Public Service Superannuation Office, Internal Affairs with Native Department, Education with Articulture, and Mines with labour and'National Provident Departments. It was decided to amend the rules gov-
erning the Ronaldson Cup competition as follows:—“That in 'the event of a drawn game, extra spells be played as decided upon by the opposing captains, and during shell spells each .force-down to count as one point.” This amendment does away with the spinning of a coin being the deciding factor in a drawn game. The following is the draw for the firat round of the tournament: —Education y. State Fire, State Advances y. Audit, Telegraph v. Insurance, Printing Office v. G.P.O. (H.Q.); Trust v. Chief Post Office, Forestry v. Internal Affairs, Railways v. Mines, Pensions, a bye. The Ronaldson Cup, which is being competed for in Ihe above tournament, will be on exhibition at Howe and Sowmans, Larabton Quay, this week.
