CITY LIGHTING DEPARTMENT
Brief reference was made at last night’s meeting of the City Council to the finances of the electric lighting department. When the Tramways and Lighting Committee’s report was under consideration, Councillor T. Forsyth said he desired to congratulate the committee on presenting a report which showed that for the first time this year the electric lighting department had an excess of revenue over expenditure. This position was, ho believed, due Io the council’s action in cutting out the discount on power. Cnuncillo’’ B Norwood said that Councillor Forsyth was not fully seized of the facts. In reality, the position did not call for congratulation. As a 'matter of fact, tho tramway and electric lighting account had gone back at least .£l7OO on last year. Councillor M. F. Luckie: What is tho fdasbn? Councillor Norwood explainer! that the report was not before the council, but tho Tramways Committee had the .nAtf under consideration, and ponding receipt of their report, it would he wise to refrain from comment. Tim report was then adopted.
