LADY ISLINGTON CUP

WON BY WELLINGTON CADETS SOME EXCELLENT SHOOTING No 39 Company Senior Cadets (Wellington South) this year has the honour of winning tlie Lady Islington Cup, which is awarded on the following conditions:—The Senior Cadet Company, which (a) is not lees than 60 in strength, (b) has 80 per cent, of its total strength ’'exercised" in classification practices of the manual musketry course, and (c) hns obtained the best company average in tho Dominion, is awarded first place in the competition, receives a cash prize of £lO, and holds the Lady Islington Challenge Cup for the ensuing year. Following are details:— Company Unite. Average. No. 39 Coy. Senior Cadete (Wellington South) 96.3 No. 12 Company. Senior Cadete (Marlborough College) 91.8 Nos. 2,6, 12 Coys. Senior Cadets (Wanganui Collegiate School) 87.6 No. 8 Coy. Sonior Cadets (Mt. Eden, Auckland) 81.9 No. 73 Coy. Senior Cadets (Hamilton High School) 77.4 No. 65 Coy. Sonior Cadets (Hokitika) ..., ”7 The above results represent the best two performances in each command. In each case one is a secondary school cadet unit and the other an ordinary Senior Cadet company. This year tho shooting has been of a very much higher standard than previously. The winning company was second in the competition last year with an average of 78 per cent. This year it will be seen that it has jumped to first place with an average of 96.3 per cent. In all cases tho units have averaged points higher than the qualification required for "marksmen," i.e., 75 per cent., and in the case of the winning company, out of a total of 107, no fewer than 98 have qualified as “marksmen.” This constitutes a record in this competition. Lieut. W. R. Christopherson, of Wellington, is the officer commanding the winning unit.
