CANADIAN GOVERNMENT MARINE. The results, of the first full year of operations of the Canadian Government Merchant Marine have been presented to Parliament by Mr. 0. O. Ballantvne, Minister of Marine and Defence. The net results of the onerations of 47 fiteamahine, varying from 2800 to 8300 tons, has been a. IoiJF. of a little less than 2,000.000 dollars. Canada embarked in the enterprise of creating a Government merchant marine as a war measure during the spring of 1918. when the German submarines had ahno't paralysed sea communications, and it is understood the work was undertaken at the direct request of the British Government. The year’s loss is attributed to the fact that the programmpe was too expensive, and should have been discontinued when the war ended. KUMARA FROM LIVERPOOL. The S.S. and A. liner Knmara is reported having left London for New Zealand ports nn Friday, according to a Press Association cable message. PORT CAROLINE SAILS TO-DAY. The C. and D. liner Port Caroline is to sail tn-dav for Brisbane. She will complete loading in Australia for London. CANADIAN SKIRMISHER AT AUCKLAND A Pr°RS Association telegram from Auckland states that the Canadian Skirmisher, the first of the Canadian Government refrigerated steamers, arrived on Saturday evening from Vancouver. The steamer carries part cargo of frozen fish for Melbourne and Sydney. KANNA DELAYED. The Kanna.'s departure from Lyttelton has been delayed. The steamer Is now duo at Wellington to-morrow morning, and. she will sail in the afternoon for Auckland. KOMATA BAR-BOUND. Th« Union Company advise that tho Komata has been bar-bound at Wes+nort, and *-hat it was expected last night to get the steamer away this, morning for Wellington. PORT KEMBLA TO COMPLETE. The C. and D. liner Port Kembla arrived from Nanier on Saturday to complete Homeward loading. She is to tail for London on Wednesday at daybreak. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. After managing the Northern Steamship Cnmnany for a period of 34 years. Mr. Charles Ranson has tendered his resignation on account of age and health, anti will relinquish his office at the erd of th’P month.. At- a meeting of directors last Monday the chairman (Mr. U. Rhodes; said that they accepted Mr. Ranson’s resignation with the greatest iegret.
