JAPANESE ARMY
NEW WAR MINISTER OPPOSED TO REDUCTION ADVISES AGAINST WITHDRAWAL FROM SIBERIA By Telegraph-Press Asaoolation-Oopyrlglit (Rec. July 6, 8.10 p.m.) Tokio, July 5. The campaign for a reduction of armaments and withdrawal from Siberia has received a cold douche from the new Minister of War, General Y amnnashi. In an interview he maintained that Japan could not reduce her Army which was necessary for national defence, could she increase it, owing to her financial position, while a, withdrawal from Siberia would precipitate widespread anarchy, and give the Soviets a free hand for propaganda throughout tho East. The Minister deprecated deference being shown to American and English: opinion and particularly emphasised the point that Japan was pursuing her own path He considered that Italy’s withdrawal from the Triple Alliance illustrated the instability of such agreements - The Times." •
