? * The Minister of Lands (Hon. D. H. Guthrie) left for the Waikato district last night. He is expected back in Wellington to-morrow morning. Tho Hon. G. J- Anderson, who underwent on operation a few days ego, ii reported to be making good progress towards recovery.

Sir William Eraser, who is in hospital in Wellington, was reported last night to have shown a decided improvement in the last 24 hours.

Sir John Findlay, K.C., who is at present on a visit to England, is expected to return to Wellington on. October 1, coming by .way of Canada. Mr. W. A. Beddoe, Canadian Commiseioner for New Zealand, has been advised by cablegram from. Montreal that Mr. Wainwright (representing the Provincial Paper Mills), and members of the firm of Howard Smith and Co. (also paper manufacturers), are sailing for New Zealand on July 9,.and will arrive about July 25. Mr. Harold Carr, for many years Registrar of the Native Land Court at Gisborne, has been promoted to be ActingJudge of the Court, and will act at Rotorua for some months to come, vice Judge Ayson, who has gone to the Islands.

Mr. C. A. Hendry, LL.B., of the head office of the Public Trust Office, has been transferred to the Masterton branch as chief clerk; and Mr. H. A. Williams, of tho head office, has also been transferred to Masteiton. Mr. F. L. Law, who has given seven years’ service to the Chinese Mission in the Wellington diocese, has returned to China. His place will be taken by the Rev. Y. P- Lee. who is expected from China this month. Mr. Lee is a graduate of St. Paul’s College, Hong-Kong, and, was ordained as deacon in 1919. Mr. R. C. Kirk, solicitor, has returned to his office after a month in hospital, following an operation, but is still feeling somewhat weakened. Mr. H. Holland, M.P., who has been attending a Jiabour conference in Sy ney, 'returned, to Wellington by the Manuka on Tuesday.
