THE ACCOMMODATION QUESTION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, Juno 27. Tn reference to a Press telegram received hero from Wellington reporting that. Mr. Arbuckle, secretary of the Miners’ Federation, had received a. letter from Westport stating that it was absolutely impossible to get’ accommodation for miners at Millerton, Stockton, or Denniston, the Westport Coal Company authorities stated to-day that there is accommodation available for 40 miners nt Millerton, and the same at Denniston. THE COMPANY CHALLENGED. The above telegram was shown to Air. Arbuckle, who, in reply, handed to the Press for publication the letter received from Mr. T. S. AVilliams, secretary, Millerton Miners’ Union. The letter is an follows:—"Just a line to advise yen not to send any men down here. There is no accommodation; every place is taxed to its uttermost. Unless a man can get private board he is done. It is wise to keep men from coming only to be turned away again. Stockton m'ine is full, and Denniston has no accommodation for any more I have put a notice in the 'Argus’ warning men not to come hero unless they get a guarantee of accommodation.” Air. Arbuckle said ho had complete, confidence in Air. Williams. Ho was prepared to stake £5O against tho company’s .£.50 that Mr. Williams had put tho position correct y.
