CARGO FOR COASTAL PORTS
NEWS FOR SHIPPERS. With reference to the activities of (he committee of the Chamber of Commerce known as the Handling of Goods on Wharves Committee, the chairman of that committee, reporting to yesterday s meeting of the council, said he wished to make clear to •■hippers a point regarding Harbour Board By-law* No. 219. That by-law provides that outward cargo can bo stored at shipper’s risk in Harbour Board shed while waiting shipment nt 2s .6d. per ton per week provided there was space available in shed adjacent to berth of steamer. It had now been arranged between the shipping companies and the Harbour Board that cargo so received would be given preference of shipment subject to weather and other conditions permitting. Shippers wore advised to make more use of that arrangement.
