THE CANASTOTA
NO TRACE OF MISSING VESSEL. There is still no news of the overdue steamer Canastota. None of tho steamers crossing the Tasman have reported traces of the steamer. The Ulimaroa kept a look-out for the steamer, but ou arrival in port yesterday had nothing to report. The Minister of Defence has received the following telegram from the Commonwealth Naval Board: “Proposed to take no naval action as regards search for Canastota. Broadcast message has been sent to all ships asking them to keep good look-out for her. Special search seems unnecessary, owing to the nunroer of ships likely to be on or near her track.” The captain of the missing Canastota had promised to communicate with relatives in New Zealand by wireless on June 15 two days after leaving Australia, and the fact that no message was received from him suceests tbat whatever mishap has overtaken the ship occurred before she was very far from th* Australian coast. The cruiser Chatham has not secured any information regarding the ship, and it is not anticipated that any further official search will be undertaken from this end at present.
