WELLINGTON’S CENTENARIAN

<• sir,—When I read in ThbDominion this day that we had in Wellington a man 1.06 years of age, and that he was residing in a home for aged poor, I deplored my inability to swear in eighteen or nineteen separate and distinct languages. I am aware there are those who would remind me that it i’ said in Scripture we are to expect the poor to be always with us, but submit that the people of Wellington should not allow the ignominy to remain by permitting so old a. citizen to end his days in a charitable institution. P.robably there are many prosperous firms who would gladly place the aged one’s name on the pay-roll, and appoint him to tho honorary position of inspector of pavements, but certainly there aro enough charitably minded people in ‘Wellington who would be glad to contribute such amounts weekly as would insure Mr. White being placed in a little home with some person to look after him, and for the caretaker to ba paid a salary, which would make it improbable that there be any neglect. I suggest St. Peter’s Mission take this matter up, and yon arc at liberty io forward, my name to the miesioncr with a statement that I shall bo glad to do my share in providing for ihe last days of the "100 and not out.”—l am, etc., CORNUBIA. .Tune 21. 1921.
