SECONDRY SCHOOL TEACHERS
NEW SCHEME OF TRAINING
The Minister of Education, (the Hon. r r Parr) has for some time been endeavouring to have arrangements made for the training of secondary school teachers. A complete scheme for tho Dominion was drawn up, but it found impossible to inaugurate it this rear In tho meantime the Minister has approved of a local scheme> to bo carried out under the auspices of Canterbury College. This college has appointed Professor Shelley to be Professor of Education, and those students oi Canterbury College who are taking the subject of education or who are studying for the diploma of education, together with any approved graduate students already - attending the Christchurch Teachers’ Training, College ar® to constitute tho secondary school teachers’ training class in Christchurch. The Canterbury College Board of Governors is prepared to arrange that observation «iud teaching practice may be obtained by those students at the Boys’ and Girls’ High School. The Minister has approved of the issue of a trained secondary school teacher’s certificate to those students who subsequently complete tho approved course. The hope is expressed by the Minister that this may be the beginning of a movement which will extend to other centres and result in the practical training in teaching of all those who are to enter on the work of teaching in secondary and technical schools.
