HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL

PAEKAKARIKI WATER SUPPLY. The monthly meeting of the Hutt Countv Council was held yestetr-dny. Councillor J. Barclay presiding. Hie following were also present:—Councillors J. Whiteman, 11. Foley, H. D. Atkinson, A. Mackay, and A. R. Edwards. Councillor H. Foley, of the Epuni riding, took his seat; at the council table, and was welcomed by the chairman. A Financial Committee was set up to consider the matter of wages nnd to report to the council at its next meeting. The chairman said that tho council would have to consider ways and means of finance. Tho following resolution was passed:— “That for the purpose of providing inatalments in respect of the principal and interest on a loan of JJ6OOO authorised to be'raised by the council for the water supplv nt Paelcakariki, the council levies a special rate of 2}d. in the pound on all rateable property in the Paekakariki township.” „ Tho inspector reported that one or (ho piers of the Cloudsley bridge nt Reikiorangi had collapsed, and had since been repaired and made unite sale. Uo ur-ved that a new bridge should lie erected "at Pakuratahi, further slight repairs having been necessary to the old bridge. Tho accounts to be passed for payment totalled 412676 6s. 10d. It. was decided to pass them, less 41700 hospital levy.
