RIOTS IN BELFAST
FIGHTING BETWEEN LOYALISTS AND SINN FEINERS CANCELLATION OF KING’S VISIT PROBABLE By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright London, June 13. Riots were resumed in Belfast on Sunday night, when opposing crowds of loyalists and Sinn Feiners stoned each other in the neighbourhood of York Street. Revolvers and, rifles were fired from the windows and roofs of houses, and several bombs were thrown. Soldiers in armoured-cars restored order. Constable Sturdy and three civilians were shot dead, and about fifty peiople were treated in the hospitals. Sniping between Loyalists and* Sinn Fenners occurred in Kashmir Road, one loyalist being killed and three wounded. The disturbances may result in the cancellation of the King’s visit to open the Northern Parliament—Aus.-N.Z, Cable Assn.
MYSTERIOUS EXECUTIONS. London, June 13.
The week-end rioting in Belfast was the worst the city has experienced. Mystery surrounds the execution of three civilians. Armed parties who travelled in motor-cars dragged the men from their beds and shot them near their homes. They carried the bodies to lonely fields outside-the city. The victims were Roman Catholics, and it is believed that their deaths are a reprisal for the recent attacks on the police. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. SINN FEIN’STOYCOTT CAMPAIGN BELFAST INDUSTRIES SEVERELY HIT. (Rec. Juno 14, 7.30 p.m.) London, June 13. Sinn Fein has declared that no cheques on the Ulster, Northern, or Belfast banks will be acceptable in any circumstances. The boycott campaign has already severely hit Belfast industries relying on Irish trade. Many firms are in a precarious position. —United Service. SINN FEINERS REPRIEVED SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT FOR LIFE. London, June 13. Two Sinn Feiners, Timothy Murphy and Edward Punch, who were sentenced to death at Limerick for levying war and possessing arms, have been reprieved and sentenced to imprisonment for life. —Aus.-N.Z.
