NO WASTE
FOOD TN CAMPS AND HOSPITALS. The Minister of Defence (Sir Heaton Bhodes) stated yesterday that he had satisfied himself,'after full inquiry, that thorn was no ground for |sugqeStirtns that food was being wasted at .the military camps and hospitals. Only such rations in kind and quality as were required from day to day wore drawn, and rations were never issued for men on leave. All refuse from the kitchens was carefully saved in receptacles provided for the purpose, and was collected daily: in the case of tho institutions nearby it was taken liy a cart to the Repatriation Department’s nig farm. Frequent inspection was made by the qnarfermasfers of the refuse receptacles to see that no undue waste occurred. All fat was carefully saved for rendering down, nnd was sold, the amount received being paid into the public account.
A certain amount of waste, the Minister added, was unavoidable in Tesnect of food si*>plied 'to consumptive patierjts. This could not he avoided, nn matter how good and wholesome the food might be; it was a case of medical necessity.
