The Minister of Agriculture (Hon. AV. Nosworthy) returned to Wellington last night.

.Mr. S. E. M'Carthy. S.M., has received cabled information that his son, Mr. 11. C. M'Carthy, who has been studying for some time past at Jesus College, Cambridge, has been chosen to captain the Oxford-Cambridge tennis team against America.

At the meeting of the New Zealand Club yesterday. Mr. C. Al. Luke, who was a foundation member of the club anr.i who declined re-election as a member of the committee, was elected a life member. Several speakers eulogised bis great services to the organisation.

Mr. T. AV. Kirk, Director of Horticulture, will retire from the service of the Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce, on superannuation, at the end of'this month. Mr. Kirk has been in the Government service for over thirty years. . Mr. E. F. M’Kenzie, oho for some years was on the electrical staff of thePublic Works Department, has returned to Christchurch, after two years spent iu America with the General Electric Co., Ltd. Mr. M'Kenzie will join the Department at Wellington in a few days.

Major AV. A. G. Penlington, Director of A’ocational Training, returned yesterday from a visit to Auckland. According to a recent General Headquarters instruction he ivi.ll take over the imme.a'iate control of splint, artificial limb, and surgical boot-making workshops belonging to the Defence Department, in. addition to vocational training. Major Penlington will in future be designated as Director of Training and Surgical Workshop.

A motion of sympathy and condolence with the widow of the late Air. C. R. Smith, who had been a valued member of the committee of the Ne.w Zealand Club, was passed at the annual meeting of the club last evening.

Air. E. C. Robinson, a merchant of Shanghai, is visiting New Zealand/. Mr. Robinson, who is a relative of Mr. AV. H. Field, ALP., will leave for England on June 15 by the Shropshire.
