UNITED STATES RAILWAYS
CUT IN WAGES ORDERED.
(Rec. Juno 1, 10 p.m.)
Mew York, June 1
Tho United States Railway Labour Board at Chicago will to-day order an average, wage-cut of 12 per cent., affecting 31 labour organisations, 104 railways, and 'decreasing the pay-roll by four hundred million dollars annually. The order will come into force on July 1. It specifically applies to railways whose cases have been heard, and may he extended to others submitting disputes for decision. The board says that since the 1920 wage award, living costs have de- < reared and wages in other 'industries have been cut, justifying this decrease. Th" big brotherhoods will meet on July 1 to consider their attitude.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
