HALF-HOLIDAY POLL
DECLARED BA’ MAGISTRATE TO BE VOID. By Telegraph-Press Association. Gisborne, May 27. Mr. Barton. S.M., to-day had before him a petition for an inquiry into the validity of the recent half-holiday poll, which resulted iu Saturday being carried by one vote. Bo held that the poll must; be declared void on the ground (1) thgt the voting paper was not in accordance with the Act, in that it provided only for a vote on the question whether tbn holiday should be Thursday or Saturday, whereas it should have afforded a choice among all the working days of the week, and (2) that tho requisition asking for the poll did not. comply with the Acjt.
