IMPERIAL POLICY
A REMINDER TO THE UNITED STATES. (Rec. May 27, 5.5 p.m.) London. May 37. The "Morning Post” says: “A renewal of the "Anglo-Japanese Treaty is regarded by the United States as potentially opposed to American interests. Admittedly. it has hitherto been solely, conBKlered in relation to the Empire’s , requirements. We may remind America that Australia, which is a Pacific Power confronting all the Eastern rowers., demands renewal of the Treaty as essential to Australasian interests. That consideration must be paramount, but it ought not to be supposed for a moment that this involves a disregard of American sentiments. Mr. Hughes shows that he realises that friendship with America is a fundamental principle, of Imperial policy. We believe that given the good will of all concerned, Mr. Hughes’s solution of the difficulty is perfectly practicable.”—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
