SHEARERS’ UNION
A meeting of the Shearers' Union was held last evening, Mr. M. A. Cook presiding. The following resolutions wore carried: —
(1) That this meeting of shearers and shed workers pledge themselves to do all in thoir power to assist the executive to obtain the full union demands in. the shearing industry for the forthcoming season.
(2) That this meeting condemns the Government’s immigration policy on the grounds that there is a general unemployment and housing crisis to lx? overcome before further batches of immigrants ore landed in New Zealand. 3) That thi emeeting draws the attention of all unionists to the reduced scale of wages now being paid for relief works In spite of the declaration made by the Minister of Public Works to the Now Zealand Workers' Union representatives that no public works would bo regarded as relief works. A large number of remits was passed for consideration at the annual conference, which will open in. Wellington on June 16.
