A POLICEMAN’S DAMAGED UNIFORM — « A day or two ago a policeman on duty on the Queen’s Wharf sprinted after a man who was wanted for using thieat ing behaviour, but tho constable s elici ts were nullified through his feet coining in contract with some obstruction. .the puliceman measured his length on the wharf, but this was not the only indignity he suffered, because his uniform was torn and the chose had to bo abandoned. The wanted man escaped, but was arrested later on and was charged in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday with wilfully damaging the policemans uni*°The defendant pleaded not guilty, and contended that he was not responsible for tho damage. As it happened, there was no need for the constable to chase the defendant, and having started to run the constable took the risk of a mishap. Mr. F/vnns, S.M., upheld tho defendant’s .contention, and said that the man could scarcely be held responsible for the constable’s fall. The charge of damaging the uniform was subsequently withdrawn.
