By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. Masterton, May 19. ' "How to increase the milk yield of dairy herds" was the subject of a series of lectures delivered by Mr. A. H. 1 Cockayne (Government Biologist) to vari'ous branches of the Farmers’ Unton throughout the Wairarapa. The last of the lectures was delivered at Featherston on Wednesday, and so great has been the interest aroused everywhere in the district that the lecturer has been, asked .to give another series in the near future. Mr. Cockayne demonstrated with the help of charts that those districts of New Zealand which went in for growing supplementary crops to ensure proper feeding of cows through the year showed a greater milk yield per cow than districts that relied mainly grass pastures. He contended that with proper feeding the present average yield of 1701 b. of butter-fat per cow could be raised in one season to 2001 b. -per cow. This would mean that another 2} millions sterling would Ms',rue to farmers without its being necessary for them to increase their dairy herds., WHOLESALE PRODUCE PRICES Messrs.
