ALLOWED TO LAND
NEWTON AND THE OATH OF ALLEGIANCE.
(Rec. May 11, 8 p.m.) Sydney, May 11.
E. Newton, of Dunedin, New Zealand, who was detained on the Riverina, has been allowed to land. The Home Department explains that there was no evidence of disloyalty in his conduct. His only reason for refusing to take tho oath of allegiance was that his religious belief would not allow him to do so. He was quite willing to affirm his loyalty.—Press Assn. 1
