AUSTRALIAN BLACKS
REPORTS OF CANNIBALISM. Perth, May 11. Mrs. Bates, who has returned from the Ooldea district, where for ‘years she worked amongst the aborigines, states that cannibalism is rife there. At a recent initiation ceremony two natives were killed and eaten. She gave other instances, when a woman killed and ate her neW-born baby, and another woman killed and ate her four babies. Hunger was not the cause, but cannibalistic instincts.—Press Assn.
