SPEEDING ON HUTT ROAD
AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION TO CHECK TIMES.
At. last night's meeting of tho Lower Hutt Borough Council a communication was received from the Wellington Automobile Club suggesting that a representative of the club should bo allowed to lake the speed of motorists going through the Hutt Road traps on race days.
The Mayor (Mr. E. P. Rishworth) considered that tho suggestion of the club was quite a reasonable one. so long as tho representative- did not. interfere ■with the council's officer during the execution of his duty. “The suggestion that we have a man hiding behind bushes is quite untrue,” said the speaker. “We aro out to sec that the speeding io not dangerous to life or limb.” He would be quite prepared to allow a representative of the' club to be in attendance merely to check the times recorded by the stop-watch. It was the council’s endeavour to prevent the unfair speeds which were indulged in during race periods. Councillor A. J. West moved that the automobile club be informed that tlio council had no objection to their sending out n representative to check the speeds, provided that there wns no interference with the work of tho council’s office.r. Councillor J. Brasell seconded tho motion, which was carried. It was decided to accede to the request of tho Wellington Education Board that notice boards should be erected in the immediate vicinity of the schools to warn motorists to reduce speed. The IVellington Automobile Club is to lie asked to provide tho boards.
