INCREASE IN DEPOSITS. During the March quarter of 1921, According to a statement furnished io the Postmaster-General (the Hon. J. G. Coates), Savings Bank deposits amounted to £7, 893,358 and withdrawals to £7, 501,715, giving an excess of deposits of .6391,643. Tn the preceding quarter the excess of deposits was .£,100,000. The increase in the excess of deposits is attributed to the increase which took effect from January 1, 1921, in the maximum amount of a deposit upon which interest is payable. The total amount at the credit of depositors on March 31, 1921, was .£42.953,965. compared with .£19,048.028 on March 31, 1914, an increase of JC23,905,937.
