FIRE IN WAIHI MINE
DAMAGE NOT SERIOUS.

. An outbreak of fire was discovered at 12 o’clock last night at No. 12 level in the 'Waihi mine. The horses were rei moved to a point of safety, and by daylight the,fire had been extinguished. The fire originated in a crib cuddy. Evidently the last shift knocking off on Saturday at noon left a lighted candle in the cuddy, which ignited the timber. The fire smouldered for twenty-four hours, (when it broke into flames. The damage was not serious. Owing to fumes underground, work, with the exception of one section, has been suspended Operations are likely th be resumed to-morrow
