TROUBLE ON WATERSIDE
DISPUTE AT 'CHRISTCHURCH.
By Telegraph—Presi Association. Christchurch May 9,
Trouble has arisen in connection with the discharge of coni from the steamer Doon holm, which arrived from Cardiff on April 22. Work had been going on daily without any necessity for overtime, but within the past few days the vessel has been chartered and is required to be in an Australian port by a certain date. To enable the ship to fulfil conditions, overtime has become necessary, but on the ship’s agents ordering the men back to-night they refused, alleging that the vessel was insufficiently lighted. The agents offered to provide additional lights. The men then stated that not having been offered overtime till to-night they were not willing to coiymcnce, and they did not turn to. The Local Disputes Committee will consider the matter tomorrow.
