Giving-evidence Ix'fore the Hospitals Commission tn Auckland. Dr. C. E. Maguire, superintendent of the Auckland Hospital, said the whole problem of the institution was the terrible and pressing need for expansion. There was always a large waiting list. “I have patients sleeping on lounges,” he snid, "and sometimes I have them sleeping on floors. Only this morning ,1 Lad to refuse admission io a poor woman suffering from heart disease.” Questioned later as io economies which might be effected. Dr. Maguire said lie Ifad suggested that th® 1 hospital dispensary should make pills and powders required by the institution, but nt present there was not sufficient room in ths disiwiisary. "Ae a matter of fact,” ho added, “there is no room in the dispensary for our bulk stores, nnd they are being kept under what really is a verandah.”
