WAIHI MINERS
INCREASED WAGES REFUSED,
By Telegraph.—Preu A«so<siation. Waihi, April 20.
A conference was held to-day between the AVaihi Miners’ Union representatives nnd the AVaihi mine owners, the former seeking an all-round -increase of 2s. per day and altered working conditions. The mine owners offered the existing agreement, with all the material points relat iug to wages and conditions, and no increase!.
The un>ion having declined to go before the Arbitration Court, the position is that they must either accept or reject tho mine dwneTjs’ terms, which the latter contended could not Ire improved, as the industry was now practically living on the inflated price of gold and silver, which must be expected to fall. The enginedrivers were also informed that no increases could be granted. As they have not rejected going to the Arbitration Court, it now rests with them fo decide whether to accept, the terms or appeal to the Court. The offer of the mine owners’ representatives is to bo submitted to the members of the respective unions to-mon-ow night.
