KAIRANGA'S ROUGH TRIP. The Kairanga lelt Newcastle at 7 a.m. on April 8 and experienced an exceptionally rough trip. A low barometer ata Newcastle indicated a weather change for the worse, and all dealt .fittings were lashed down, and everything on deck made snug. By noon on Friday it came on to blow hard from the. south-weßt. ind by sunset the gale hail increased to a cvclone. The vessel had been hove*to nt 4 p.m. till next morning, when conditions were expected to be easier. How. »ver. at 1 o’clock on Saturday morning ‘rtie steering-pear carried away, both hj n d and steam, and the Kairanga was left wallowing in the trough of theseasi at the mercy of the waves. Huge Beas broke on board, nnd swept all dear fore and aft. The vessel’s decks were continually awash, and the water was U" ns far as the bridge. After an hour and a half's hard work the officers and crew effected repairs, and by 2.30 a.m. the vessel was under control. The weather moderated somewhat on Saturday morning. but heavy seas still broke on bu ar<l and kept the decks awa sh. At 3 o clock on Saturday afternoon, however, it began to blow a violent gale from the sou-sou’-east. The Kairanga kept on her coutr« until 4 a.m. on Sunday, when she passed nut of the cydonm Her head was then turned round, and the vovnge continued to Wellington. CASE OIL FOR NEW

The General Steamship Corporation has advised the New Plymouth Harbour Board through their agents there that thev have found it necessary to charge n siirhtlv higher rate on case oil t* that port,"for the reason that they were not always assured of berths for their ships. The chairman of the Harbour Board has stated that nt. nresent. there is no possibility of extending the berthage. WAIMANA NOW DUE ON TH UItSDAY, The S.S. and A. liner Waimana Is now duo here on Thursday. She was to have left Whakatano on- Saturday for Auckland. Her sailing date, for London has been advanced until April 28. WAIVTERA LEAVES COLON. The S.S. and A. Line have received advice that the Waiwcra left. Colon on Thursday last homeward bound. The Waiwent left Auckland on March 14 for London. SUSSEX FROM AUCKLAND. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Sussex arrived in port from Auckland on Saturday. The Sussex, it- will be. remembered, went ashore at, Colon, and was thereby considerably delayed. She has cargo from St. John for discharge here, and will Dio'- visit Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. CARGO FROM BOSTON AND NEW YORK. The Federal line advise that the Otarama will take general cargo for Boston and New York, as well as Liverpool and Avontnouih. The vessel sailed on Saturday for Lyttelton, and is duo back here on Thursday. She will sail finally for the ports mentioned on April 23. MOERAKI DUE THIS MORNING. According to wireless advice received from the Moeraki. she will arrive in the stream at 11 am. to-day. It is hoped to dispatch her for Lyttelton to-night and she is due back either on Wednesday or Thursday. She is timed to sail on tho return trip to Sydney and Hobart on Thursday. WAIKAWA LEAVES SAN FRANCISCO. Advice has been received by the Union Company that the Waikawa left San Francisco on April 11 for Wellington. She is due hero the first week in May, and will later visit Dunedin, Melbourne, and Sydney.

THE TAINUI. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Co.’s liner Tainui is due here to-day from London and Southampton. No word .had been received at a late hour last night as to what time she would arrive m the stream. Tho Tainui is in ballast, and after oisembarking her passengers rhe will load in New Zealand ports for London. She 1b expected to sail from here finally on May 5. RAMA DELAYED. The Rama has been delayed, and is not due here now until to-morrow. It i« hoped to dispatch her for the Chatham Islands on Wednesday. MAHANA'S MOVEMENTS. Tho Mahana is expected to leave Lyt- ’ telton on Tuesday for (Port Chalmers. She is due back in Wellington on May 4, and at present ia timed, to sail for London on May 10. MARAMA DUE WEDNESDAY. The R-M.fi. Marama, bound from San Francisco to Wellington, has reported by wireless that she may be expected to arrive hero on Wednesday. TASMANIA FROM AUCKLAND. The Tasmania is expected to leave Auckland to-morrow for Wellington, and is due here on Thursday. From here> the, will proceed to Lyttelton and Dunedin. CORINTHIC TO COMPLETE. Tho S.S. and A. Liner Corinihio arrived last night from Nanier, to complete her loading for Home. She to sail for London on Saturday next. PIAKO TO COMPLETE DISCHARGE. The Piako. at present discharging here, is to sail on Thursday for Lyttelton to continue discharge. She will put out th« remainder of her cargo at, Dunedin and Bluff. The Rarawa. which held up in Onehnnga. owing to the state of the Manakau bar last week, wa" able to cross outwards on Saturday afternoon. The Flora sailed late on Saturday night for Picton to load for Onehunga. From the latter port she will go to Lyt-< telton to load Plymouth. The small rteamer Malnita finished discharging guano at New Plymouth on Saturday. and sailed for Wanganui to nut out the remainder of her carge.
