LIGHT WANTED
Si r —As one of the audience at Mr. Hickey’s address to electors last riKSdav night in the Town Hall, this writer was disappointed to find that the candidate did not make use of the experience of other States which have adopted a Labour regime to fortify his chums on the suffrages of Wellington elector. Citizens of this town and district who have to their credit a life record of hard and honest endeavour in the building up of the town and district, and who, furthermore. take a great pm e achievements, are naturally suspicious of innovations, and would like to know all about the alleged or inferred benefits that have accrued ip Queensland ror instance (to cite a Labour State haplmzy ard), as n result of that States five or six years of Labour caucus rule If Mr. Hickev would point out how much better that State is (for the worker particularly), after a lengthy period under the present Labour Government, as compared to the preceding capitalistic term. Or than, sav. Victoria. Tasmania, or New (foal and—three so-called capitalistic States. The supreme test of government (the present writer thinks) is the capacity of a Government to find work tor everyone in the State-constant and well remunerated work that will redound alike to the lasting credit- of individual and State; the profitable and harmonious running of railways, agriculture, Industrie- in fact every social and economic activity that constitutes the life of a nation, and at. the same time inspire the confidence and good will of other States. Will Mr. Hickey supply foots and figures to prove that in respect of these essential State qualities, Queensland, under a Labour c/uietu shows a better all-round result than under a previous so-called capitalistic term, or than the three, above-mentioned eo-called capitalistic States?-! am, etc., JNQOIRKK .
