TRAMWAY FATALITY
Sir, —As an eye-witness of the recent tramway accident in Manners Street I feel impelled to give publicity to the fact that the first persons to render assistance wore those from a near-by engineering establishment, who immediately procured three jacks from their works and actually partly lifted the car liefore the tramway plant reached the scene. Unfortunately the jacks used were unsuitable for lifting a tramway bogie. It seems to me. Sir, that every car should bo equipped with jacks and that the men should bo instructed how to use them. At present there must be delay in procuration. of lifting appliances from a depot, and further delay if experienced men are not on the spot to work the jacks. In the instance under review a much speedier release of the victim could hpve 'been effected if the car had been equipped as suggested, and in every case of Occident expedition is of supreme importance. Pending the invention and fitting of an effective lifeguard ought not tho council to provide sufficient jacks to equip every car I press this point. Sir, because it may be , TT , Y , r MY TURN NEXI.
