FRENCH TEAM INVITED TO AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND NEW AUSTRALASIAN COMPETITION By Telegraph—Press Association-Oopyrighl (Rec. April 16, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, April 16. The Tennis Association is sending a cable message to France to ascertain if she is prepared to send a team to Australia and New Zealand at the end of the year, including Mademoiselle Lenglen. It was also decided to establish a competition open to all Australian States and New Zealand on Davis Cup lines, the winner to hold the Anthony Wilding Cup, which was won by Wilding in competitions and presented to Australasian tennis by his parents. Western Australia was granted the right to hold tho Australasian championships in December next.—Press Assn. COVERED COURTS CHAMPIONSHIP GREAT CONTEST BETWEEN LYCETT 'AND VON BRAUN. London, April 16. The Lycett-von Braun match was the best contest seen in the championships. It resulted in Lycett winning, 4—6, 6 —3, B—6,8 —6, 6—4. Braun’s driving was of the hurricane variety, both forehand and backhand. He volleyed excellently, and served with the high-kicking American delivery, which fully tested Lycett’s powers of return. The Swede unquestionably has como to iho front Tank as a singles player. There was little to choose between the players, despite. Lycett’s superb driving, grand serving, and occasionally brilliant volleying. W. Crawley defeated A. A. Fyzee, 7—5, 7 —5, G —3, and qualified for the final, where he plays Lycett. Fyzee was very accurate on the forehand, but his unorthodox backhand was his undoing. In the semi-finals for the doubles, Crawley and Ahthalter beat the Fyzee brothers, 4—6, 6—4, B—6, and Davson and Mavrogordato beat Fisher and W. Botsford, 3—6, 6—2. 6—3, 6—2. In the semi-finals for the mixed doubles Fishor and Mrs. Peacock beat Sherwell and Miss Holman, 6 —l, 6 —l. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. GOBERT WINS THE CHALLENGE ROUND. (Rec, April 17, 11.10 p.m.) London, April 16. Tn the final of the covered courts championships singles, Crawley beat Lycett, 4—6, 14—16, 7—5, 9—7, 6—3. It was a record match for covered courts, lasting three hours and a half. Lycett was within a point of the match seven times in the fourth set. In the mixed doubles Fisher and Mrs. Peacock, beat Lovibond and Mrs. Lambert Chambers, 6 —o, 7—5. In the challenge round singles Gobert (France) beat Crawley, 6—2, 6—4, 4—6, o—6, 7—s.—Aus.-N.Z.
