SIX-A-SIDE COMPETITIONS

RECORD ENTRY OF TEAMS The Association football season opened on Saturday with six-a-sido competitions in all grades. A record entry of 107 teams indicates the extent to which the "soccer” game has grown in popularity. This year’s competitions proved to be the most successful in tho history of the code locally, and reflect the greatest credit upon the officials who controlled the various games. The first division attracted 14 entries. The final brought Thistle and Marist A in opposition, and resulted in a wellcontested game. Thistle won by 2 goals to nil. despite the strenuous efforts of their opponents. For the second division there were ten entries. Thistle (B) and Thorndon (B) reached the final, tho former winning by one goal to nil, after a closely-con tested game. Tn the third division there were seven entries. The finalists (South Wellington and Institute) were very evenly .matched, and victory eventually rested with South Wellington by one corner to nil. In the fourth division, for which then, wore 19 entries, Marist A beat Y.M.C.A. by one goal to nil in the final, after a fast game full of clever football. There were 19 entries in the fifth division. The final resulted in a popular victory for St. Patrick’s College, who were making their first appearance in "soccer” football.
