In the fourth round of the tennis covered courts championship. Vonbraun, a youthful Swede, defeated Norton, last year’s South African champion, 10—8, 6—3, I—6, 2—6, 6—2. The winner’s hitting powers were remarkable, being as severe as Johnston's famous punch.

ACCIDENT TO DOUST. (Rec. April 15, 0.5 a.m.) ’London, April 14.
While playing in the covered court doubles at the Queen’s Club, Doust fell heavily and broke a tendon in his left leg.—Aus.-N.Z. Gable Assn.
SHIMIDZU UNABLE TO PLAY IN DAVIS CUP TIES. (Rec. April 15,’ 1.5 a.m.) London, .April 14. It is understood that Shimidzua has cabled from Calcutta that he will he unable to represent Japan in the Davis Cup ties this year. Further efforts are being made through th'o National Tennis Club of Japan to obtain his release from business with a view to his participating in Japan’s debut in international tennis. Tilden expresses tho opinion that Japan will be the challenger if Shimidzu plays. —Reuter.
